After HS graduation, I received my BS from Southern Nazarene University, my MA from California State University, and my Ed. D. from UCLA. For my dissertation, I conducted a case study in which I identified a model of school change that included four elements frequently associated with increases in student achievement: 1) goals that are set and shared; 2) indicators that measure success; 3) assistance by capable others; and 4) leadership that supports and pressures. I hypothesized that these four elements influenced teacher practices and teacher attitudes. In turn, I predicted them to influence student outcomes, particularly academic achievement. A comprehensive account of this study can be found in the book, “Successful school change: Creating settings to improve teaching and learning” (Goldenberg, 2004). This seminal work provided the groundwork for continued research and development. A fifth element, “settings that allow staff to get important things done,” has been added to the model. This enhanced model of school change is being used for the Learning Teams program at Pearson Achievement Solutions.

I spent 40 years in the educational profession as a teacher and school site administrator. In 2007, I decided to leave the profession while I was doing a great job! Working 24/7 was quite demanding. Since then I've had part-time assignments in education: interim principal, co-teacher of a doctoral class, coordinator of a CA program whereby teachers receive a clear teaching credential, teacher support for a charter middle school, and now a leadership coach for the Los Angeles County Board of Education.

Retirement has been great, and has allowed me to do some international traveling (Africa, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Slovakia, Vienna, Germany, Paris, Greece). I live in a beautiful condo about 1 mile from the beach.

I have experienced two marriages, which ended in divorce. I do not regret either as I gained a great deal from both relationships. After 20 years of being single, I met a wonderful man, Don Minchow. We are now engaged!

In addition to my part-time work and travel, I also keep busy with my girlfriends (movies, lunches, dinners, theatre, walks to the beach, bridge, etc.)

Jennie, who lives in the Kansas City area, and I try to see each other at least three times a year. Now that she is retired, we talk almost every day. Jennie, Dan (her husband of 40+years) and I had a fabulous time at our 40th reunion, and plan to attend our 50th.

I have fond memories of my days at LHS. My most vivid memory is dating Don Gartner. We were sweethearts during our senior year. He is still a great friend! It's a bit coincidental that I am now engaged to a man whose name is also Don. They are both men, absolute salt of the earth! I am blessed!
