Marylouise Kliment (Dean)

I went to Nancy Shirey services which was at SouthPointe Christian Church. Nancy was born in Lincoln on April 28, 1945 to Lester and Anne Shirey, the youngest of four girls. She attended Hartley Elementary, Whittier Junior High, Lincoln High, graduated from Lincoln School of Commerce, and then went to work for Lincoln Telephone. The telephone company was a life long career for Nancy. She worked there for 30 years in a variety of jobs. Her fellow employee gave her the nickname Spanky, the name stuck. Nancy proudly displayed the name on her car license plate.

Sister Virginia and Roberta were grown and out of the house when Nancy was born. Barb was 10 years older than Nancy so Nancy grew up tagging along which wasn' t  particularly welcomed by Barb and her friends. After Anne's death Barb became a second Mom to Nancy.

Nancy live in the family home , she loved her house and took pride in fixing it up. Nancy had a dog name Sassy which she loved very much, she enjoyed her computer, connecting with friends and family and playing games on Facebook. She loved sunsets, bowling, ballgames, fishing, golf, grapes and cheese, Runzas and rich malts, and doing all kinds of needlework and She made afghans and prayer shawls and quilts. She also embroidered, knitted and did needlepoint.

Nancy loved dogs. She dog sat, she took care of dogs because she loved dogs but also because she loved people. She could help people by giving them the peace of knowing their pets would get loving attention when they were't there to give it themselves. Nancy had a servant's heart. She was introduced to an older lady who was going to have surgery and couldnh't afford to board her dog. Nancy took care fo the dog, and adopted the owner, taking her shopping and to the doctor. She was always ready to give a ride at short notice. And no place was too far to go to help someone.

On Sunday morning, she had a way of making each person she greeted feel especially noticed. She was always talking to the kids and letting them help her . Nancy already trained our future communion prep team. She was the heart of that team. The organizer, the short-call substitute; making sure it was done right. Even when it wasn't her Sunday to prepare, she was at the church early, just incase someone didn't show up or was late. She loved the church, whatever needed to be done she did it with a smile.

She lived out her faith governed by the Spirit in love. Nancy was a gift. She was comfortable to be around, easy to be with. Fun,with sandy hair and a freckled face. As her niece Carol Lyn said,"She was the most selfless, unpretentious person you would ever meet. She kept it simple, she kept it real, and she was so loved." Her family, her friends, her church ache for the loss.
