I graduated from the University of Nebraska in Jan 69 with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering; and went to work for the Army Corps of Engineers in Omaha in Feb 69. I was soon drafted and spent 2 years, Apr 69 to Apr 71, in the Army; then returned to the Corps in Omaha. In Jul 71, I moved to Omaha’s Joliet (IL) Area Office. I transferred to the Corps’ Mobile (AL) District Office in Dec 73; then to the Mobile District’s MacDill (AFB) Area Office in Tampa, FL. After 8 months in Tampa, I transferred back to the Mobile District Office, and worked there until retiring in Jan 07. My career included the administration of construction contracts; negotiating construction contracts with small businesses; and, selection of construction contractors under the so-called “Best Value” process.
I married Linda Trueheart on 13 Jan 73, in her hometown of Winter Haven, FL. We originally lived in Minooka, IL (near Joliet), then moved to Mobile, then Tampa and back to Mobile. My son was born in Tampa; my daughter in Mobile. I’m a Husker; my wife is a Gator; my son is a Tide fan (graduated in 99); my daughter is a University of South Alabama Jaguar (graduated in 01). With my son-in-law being a die-hard Mississippi State fan, things get wild where sports are concerned.
In retirement, I dabble in model railroading, while helping my wife take care of her 97-year-old mother. We also baby sit our 2-year-old grandson (first and only, so far), while his parents work. I enjoy keeping track of Lincoln news through the on-line Journal Star, and watching the traffic cams on starcitywebcam.com. My next planned trip to Lincoln is for the October reunion.
