Lincoln man found dead in garage

The body of a 39-year-old Lincoln man was found lying in his car in his garage Tuesday.  County Attorney Mike Heavican identified the man as David Spevak, 400 NW 20th St.  Spevak apparently had been dead for several days when he was found, Heavican said.  Dr. Harlan Papenfuss conducted an autopsy at Lincoln General Hospital Tuesday evening, but the cause of death won't be determined until the results of toxicological tests are received, Heavican said.

David Spevak was another of my childhood friends along with Steve Floth, Billy Webel, Frank Quinn all deceased.  Loretta [Tubbs] Love is still going strong and Ozzie Osberg, too (I think).  Anyway Dave lived about 6 blocks from me, so we didn't play together much.  We went to a 4 room school, District 113, until 7th grade and then went in to Everett.  We used to trade mechanical pencils, Dave and me and someone else (maybe Bobby Shelby) and we weren't very fair to David and always got the best of him.  I have felt bad for years about that.  The last time I saw David, he was riding his bike along with his Granddaughter!! in front of my family home on West Q street.  He had not changed in looks a bit.  It was nice to see him again.  It is so difficult to really remember those days.  We had gravel streets, the pool at Capitol Beach (saltwater) the lane as a shortcut to school.  It seems like such a different world and time.  I am sorry that David has passed on.  He was a very gentle soul.
