DeWitt man, 62, is killed.  Beatrice - A DeWitt man was killed when his pickup crashed and rolled into a cornfield near Beatrice, the Gage County sheriff's office said.  The man was identified as 62-year-old Gary Bridges.  Sgt. Bruce Slavers said Bridges was found about 6:20 pm Friday, lying in the field near his wrecked vehicle.  He had not been wearing a seat belt.  The crash likely happened when Bridges' vehicle swerved off the roadway and into a ditch, then rolled several times before coming to rest on its side, he said.  Bridges' wife, Roberta, died last year as a result of heart complications, said her sister, Iris Zimmerman of Lincoln.  She remembers Gary Bridges as an honest man.  "He was just about one of the best people you could ever know," she said.

Although I knew Gary in high school, I best remember him, and his wife, Roberta (Prall), for the fact that their wedding anniversaries matched the year of our reunions; e.g., during our 10th reunion, they were celebrating their 10th anniversary.  It seems I recall that they were recognized for being the couple married the longest from the Class of 63 (I may be wrong on that).  I have the obits for both, showing that Roberta died in August 2006; and that Gary died in October 2007.

Gary was a very dear friend of mine... we lived in Belmont, in Lincoln, Nebraska. After 50 years... I always wondered what happened to him and Roberta.   They were a neat couple...
